Materials Models Mindsets Project

Brand Development, Market Research

Project Brief -

The Materials_Models_Mindsets Project was a 4-week sustainability-focused initiative conducted in association with the University for the Creative Arts from October to November 2022. The project aimed to explore sustainable practices in the creative industries by focusing on three key themes: Materials, Models, and Mindsets.

Project Duration - 4 Weeks

Skills -

  • Teamwork
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Collaborative Problem Solving
  • Talent Management
  • Systems Thinking

Task 1 involved research, planning, and presenting a group project on sustainability. Participants explored sustainable materials (such as recycling, upcycling, and low-toxicity materials), business models (including ethical production and collaborative consumption), and mindsets (such as activist approaches and corporate social responsibility). The goal was to design a concept for a mini collection or brand, incorporating sustainable and circular models, and to develop a promotional campaign to market this concept effectively. This task emphasized teamwork, creative thinking, and presentation skills, especially using Adobe InDesign.

Task 2 required participants to visit stores to gather visual and textual research through photos, sketches, and notes. This research was then compiled into a 4-page shop report created in InDesign, showcasing the findings and evaluations in a professional format.

Overall, the project encouraged collaborative learning, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of sustainability in fashion and creative business practices.

My Learning -

The Materials_Models_Mindsets Project taught me a great deal about sustainability in the creative industries. This four-week initiative helped me develop a deeper understanding of how sustainable practices can be applied to fashion and business. I explored various sustainable materials like recycling and upcycling and learned about different business models that promote ethical production and collaborative consumption.

Working on the project helped me appreciate the importance of adopting new mindsets, such as activism and corporate social responsibility, to drive institutional change. I also enhanced my research and planning skills by contributing to a group project where we designed a concept for a sustainable mini-collection or brand. This experience sharpened my ability to think creatively and work effectively in a team.

Additionally, I gained practical experience using Adobe InDesign, which was crucial for creating a professional 4-page shop report. Visiting stores and gathering visual research taught me how to evaluate and present findings in a visually appealing and informative way. Overall, the project enriched my sustainability knowledge and equipped me with valuable research, collaboration, and presentation skills.
